The Joys of Teaching English

Student: So, I'm going to be working at this exhibit and the other... umm... what are the people working at an exhibition called?

Me: Oh, uh... you could call them...

Student (cutting in): Oh wait, I know!! They're called exhibitionists!

Me: Yes, yes they are. That's absolutely right. And make sure you tell everyone that's what you'll be doing.

Fascinating

For some reason, this really floats my boat (you know, in a voyeuristic sort of way...):

Moving Below the Rivers

It's official!

M has accepted a job with a Dutch company and we'll be moving to Den Bosch, The Netherlands!(technically s' Hertogenbosch, but who wants to try to pronounce that, huh?)

Den Bosch is "below the rivers" which means it's in the traditionally Catholic part of Holland. I have no idea how exactly Catholicism has influenced the people in this area of the country and, really, it doesn't matter to me. What does matter is that Den Bosch (and other southern cities) feel more like the US. Folks are a bit more open down there -- they say hello to you in bars and restaurants, smile at you on the street and strike up random convesations. I can't tell you how much I've missed those little day-to-day niceties.

As for me, I've had a few interviews lately that have gone quite well. I don't know if a job will come from them, but I'm not worried. I've also been giving English lessons and it's fun and rewarding work. I can always keep with it in my new city. (I hope!)
