I think it differs. For millennia women have been exchanging their beauty and youth for the security of financial stability. (read: a rich husband) And vice versa.
Now women (and men) just have the internet as a means of finding each other.
I think it's the use of the internet that seems to sully this. If my friend had met a rich Chinese guy in, say, a bar, and he was interested in her business, we wouldn't question her.
Do you think women (and men) never get an unfair advantage in business when they are more attractive than their competition?
